Home Remedies for Peptic Ulcers

Ulcers that develop in the stomach are known as gastric or peptic ulcers. These ulcers are generally quite painful, and the pain is felt immediately after eating something. It lasts for about one to one and a half hours – this is the time taken ordinarily to digest food – and then it subsides. Peptic ulcers are a digestive problem; hence they are caused due to pitta vitiation. In specific, when the digestive fire of the body, known as the agni, is vitiated, peptic ulcers can occur.

Causes of Peptic Ulcers:

- Use of non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID’s)

Infection with Helicobacter pylori bacteria

- Peptic ulcer is caused when H. pylori and NSAID’s break down the stomach or intestine’s protective mucus layer which prevents digestive juices from damaging the organs.

Symptoms of Peptic Ulcer:

The most common symptoms of peptic ulcer are a burning pain between the navel and the breastbone. Some people also have back pain. The pain can last for a few hours and again come back to last for weeks. Some sufferers of peptic ulcer may experience loss of appetite and weight loss, vomiting, bloating or nausea. Black stools may be another symptom and these symptoms vary from one person to another.

Treatment of Peptic Ulcers:

- Cut some fresh amalaki and remove their seeds. Dry them by heating on an open iron pan. Use a low fire so that black soot is formed and the amalaki turn into black colored charcoal. You can crush it into a powder not. Mix this powder with some sugar and psyllium husk. Preserve this mixture in a glass jar.

- Take some aniseed in a quantity of one teaspoon. Put it in a cupful of water and boil it. When it reaches boiling point, shut the flame and keep it covered for the night. In the morning, filter the mixture and take it with honey.

- The best remedy for healing ulcers, especially gastric (stomach) ulcers is a diet rich in natural green foods – eating plenty of green cruciferous vegetables and drinking vegetable juice daily or as often as possible.

- Cabbage juice is probably the best instant healing remedy for ulcers. I usually tell people suffering from ulcers to drink 2-4 ounces of cabbage juice daily.

- Yoga/deep breathing exercises, transcendental meditation, crystal therapy, positive thinking, aromatherapy (essential oils of Lavender, Bergamot, Neroli, Valerian, and Davana); Tai Chi, massage therapy, colon therapy, relaxation, deep sleep, living righteously and standing on and for truth can all help to reduce or eliminate stress – Guaranteed!

- Eat simple to digest meals and keep a fixed schedule of meal times. Do not eat at different times every day.

- Avoid spicy foods, sour foods and hot foods that irritate the stomach.

- Among fruits, oranges, raspberries, plums and melons are good.

- The black nightshade, commonly known as sunberry or wonder cherry, is effective in treatment of peptic ulcers.

- The Indian gooseberry is known as amalaki in Ayurvedic medicine. It is the richest source of vitamin C, i.e. ascorbic acid.

- Licorice is very effective in the treatment of stomach ulcers.

Home Remedies for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a common nerve entrapment disorder that causes significant impairment and disability, affecting millions of Americans each year.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a common condition which occurs when the nerve that runs from the forearm into the hand becomes pressured or squeezed at the wrist. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome can occur in about 1 in every 100 people at some stage in their lifetime and the symptoms are typically pain, weakness, or numbness in the hand and wrist, moving up the arm.

The Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a medical condition in which the median nerve is compressed at the wrist. The median nerve passes through the carpal tunnel. The Carpal Tunnel is a canal in the wrist. The Carpal tunnel syndrome typically starts gradually, with a light pain in your wrist that can from there extend into the hand or forearm of a patient who is experiencing this problem.

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a serious and painful form of Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI). It can disrupt your work and leisure activities by affecting your hand and wrist. It is easier to prevent than to treat.

Causes of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome:

- Heredity is the most important factor.

- Hand use over time can play a role.

- Repetitive motions of the hand and wrist

- Hormonal changes related to pregnancy and menopause.

- Medical conditions including diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and thyroid gland imbalance.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Symptoms:

There are a variety of uncomfortable symptoms associated with the disorder, but the most common clinical features involve pain, numbness, paresthesia (pins and needles) and tingling in the thumbs, first two fingers and sometimes one-half of the ringer fingers. In more severe cases, pain travels from the median nerve up the arm, creating referred pain and dysfunction throughout the forearm, shoulder, upper back and neck.

Treatment of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome:

There are numerous treatments and proposed cures for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome but one of the most popular and straightforward self-help remedies are exercises designed to alleviate the symptoms.

Avoid any activities that contribute to carpal tunnel syndrome. For example, either stop or reduce repetitive movements that put your wrist in a bent position. If you have to perform repetitive wrist motions, then keep your wrists in a neutral position, maintain a proper posture, and take regular breaks from repetitive activities.

Wear a splint or brace. Preferably wear the brace/splint during activities where the carpal tunnel symptoms flare up. Wearing the brace/splint at night when you go to sleep is also an effective method to conquering carpal tunnel syndrome since your wrist is usually bent at night further aggravating your carpel tunnel nerves.

Take some over the counter inflammatory medicine such as aspirin or ibuprofen.

Cortisol/steroid injections. While this method is typically less invasive than surgery, it still requires a visit to a doctor’s office. These injections usually provide temporary relief as they reduce the inflammation in the carpal tunnel.

The best way to prevent carpal tunnel syndrome is to implement preventative measures, reduce unnecessary stress and strain to the hands and wrists and keeping physically fit and muscles balanced in order to keep carpal tunnel syndrome and the other many repetitive strain injuries at bay. By exercising the muscles in the hand, wrist, forearm and shoulder so as to promote optimal muscle balance, one can do a great deal to prevent carpal tunnel syndrome from occurring.
